Hello! I’m Melissa, an aspiring YA writer who recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in English. I have a particular soft spot for children’s and young adult literature, especially stories containing magic and/or monsters.
This is a blog about stories: reading them, watching them, writing them, using them to make sense of the world. I find it easier to talk about stories than to talk about myself, so I’m going to try using stories as a way to talk about my life.
The name ’emptybees,’ in case you were curious, comes from my initials (MTB). I was very impressed with myself when I came up with this.

Hi Melissa,
Keep doing what you’re doing. I share some of your interests- all things Gothic, Star Wars-related trivia and of most interest to me, extreme shyness. I am a writer who loves to write (& read) but hates the self-promotion involved in publishing (ebooks especially)- this is like Kryptonite for book sales unfortunately. I don’t blog, Tweet or even have a mobile phone- I write books.
Anyway, your followers may be interested in Luke, I am Your Father or Memoir of a Gothic Girl (both now available on Kindle). They take important & serious subjects but from a slightly warped point of view- they’re both written to be funny. See what you think & do post responses.
